Dr. David S. Yeago

Michael C. Peeler Professor of Systematic Theology

Dr. Yeago has been a member of the faculty at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary since 1988.  In October of 1995 the Board of Trustees of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary formally established the Michael Peeler Chair in Systematic Theology and appointed Dr. David S. Yeago as the first Michael Peeler Associate Professor of Systematic Theology. 

Dr. Yeago has published in a variety of journals including Pro Ecclesia, Modern Theology, The St. Vladimir's Theological Quarterly, Lutheran Forum, and Nova et Vetera. His articles have addressed a wide range of issues, including ecumenism, Biblical hermeneutics, and the theology of Martin Luther. His article "The Catholic Luther" is available online.

Dr. Yeago has participated as member or consultant in ecumenical dialogues with the Moravian Church, the Orthodox Church, and the Roman Catholic Church. With other colleagues, he helped draft the Faculty Position Paper on Spirituality and Spiritual Formation. In May, 2007 he delivered the Commencement Address at the Seminary graduation ceremony.

In addition to the introductory theology course, Dr. Yeago teaches courses on the theology of the Christian life, early Christian biblical exegesis and theology, and the theology of Martin Luther. His current research is focused on the theological interpretation of Scripture and the role of Scripture in Christian formation.

Dr. Yeago holds a BA from the College of William and Mary, a M.Div. from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, and M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. from Yale University.  He also studied at the Catholic University of America.
