The Rev. Dr. Julius Carroll
Associate Professor of Contextual Education
The Rev. Dr. Julius Carroll joined the seminary faculty in the summer of 2008. Prior to Southern Seminary, Dr. Carroll was the Director for African Decent Ministry-Multicultural Ministries of the ECLA. In this position he was the project manager for the ELCA African Descent Strategic Plan as well as frequent guest lecturer on multicultural topics.
This followed more than two decades of parish ministry in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Oakland, California. During this time he also served as the Dean of the Washington, D.C. Conference and the facilitator of the Oakland-Berkley-Alameda, CA Strategic Planning Process.
Dr. Carroll holds a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He is also a veteran of the United States Armed Forces and has worked for the United States Postal Service.
Outside of his daily work, Dr. Carroll enjoys going to the movies, reading African American fiction and non-fiction, and watching his favorite professional football team—the Philadelphia Eagles.
