Lending Policy
LTSS BORROWERS Full time and part time LTSS students may check
out books for the term, with a limit of 50 books. Connector students
and anyone auditing a class may check out five books at a time for four
weeks. Faculty may check out books for one term. A book may be recalled
if needed by student or other faculty member from any of the
categories.
NON-SEMINARY LIBRARY PATRONS are those persons wishing to use the facilities of Lineberger Memorial Library who are not currently a part of the seminary board, administration, faculty, faculty emeriti, staff, or student body. The following categories of non-seminary library patrons may borrow books from the library after filling out a patron user card and providing a current ID from their institution. It will be the responsibility of the patron to keep the Library informed of address changes.
Consortium borrowers are affiliated with a school with which LTSS has entered into an agreement. They are LIMITED TO FIVE (5) BOOKS AT A TIME for a 4 week circulation period. They must show a current school identification card and fill out a patron user card. They will be entered into our library circulation database and be assigned a card and barcode number. They must have their library card (with barcode) when checking out books. For patrons in this category, there is no charge for borrowing privileges. These borrowers are:
faculty and students of Columbia College
faculty only of the University of South Carolina
Students of the Master of Arts in Religious Studies program at the University of South Carolina (only students in this degree program)
faculty and students of Columbia International University Seminary (not undergraduate students)
Courtesy borrowers - Extension borrowers have borrowing privileges by their association with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. They must fill out a patron user card. They will be entered into our library circulation database and be assigned a card and barcode number. They are LIMITED TO FIVE (5) BOOKS AT A TIME. for a 4 week circulation period. There is no charge for borrowing privileges. These borrowers are:
Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary Alumni
Faculty Emeriti
ELCA clergy and Associates in Ministry
Newberry College faculty
Episcopal Clergy
United Methodist Clergy
Presbyterian Church USA Clergy
Moravian Clergy
United Church of Christ Clergy
Columbia area borrowers Residents of Columbia and the surrounding area can haveborrowing privileges if they pay an annual fee of $25 , and fill out a patron user card. They will be entered into our library circulation database and be assigned a card and barcode number. They must have their library card (with barcode) when checking out books. If a good borrowing record is maintained, patrons may renew their cards after the first year. They are LIMITED TO FIVE (5) BOOKS AT A TIME for a 4 week circulation period. These borrowers are:
Clergy from other denominations in Columbia and surrounding areas
General public, 18 or older, from Richland or Lexington counties (borrowers from outside this area are encouraged to borrow using interlibrary loans through their college or local public library)
Restricted to in-library use only
The following category of non-seminary library patrons may use the library facility, but MAY NOT CHECK OUT BOOKS. These RESTRICTED users include:
students at the University of South Carolina (except M. A. in Religious Studies)
undergraduate students at Columbia International University
general public outside the greater Columbia area (Lexington and Richland counties)
Alumni/ae Services
All LTSS alumni/ae are welcome to borrow books from the Lineberger Memorial Library. You may borrow up to five books at one time for four weeks [with two renewals].

We must have your current address information, phone number, etc. to be input into our system before you may begin to borrow materials.
