Since its founding in 1830, Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary has depended upon the grace of God and the benevolence of God’s people in order to fulfill its mission to prepare and support leadership for the church of Jesus Christ. This vital support comes through the various expressions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) including the churchwide structure and the synods and congregations of Region Nine. In addition to churchwide and synodical support, charitable donations and grants from other sources including alumni/ae and other individuals, businesses, foundations and other organizations are essential for the long-term strength and vitality of the seminary.
The policy guidelines herein are designed to provide guidance to both the seminary community and the general public as the seminary works to achieve its mission. While depending upon divine grace and benevolence, the seminary is committed to intentionally seeking and gratefully receiving gifts that express and recognize donor interests while supporting and advancing the seminary’s purpose and mission. This policy is meant to facilitate this process.
Gifts may be received for any and all purposes consistent with the seminary's mission and for which appropriate administrative approval has been granted.
The seminary will not accept gifts which violate its own principles or those of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. These principles prohibit discrimination based upon race, religion, sex, age, national origin, color, disability or any other basis prohibited by federal, state, or local laws and regulations. The seminary will not accept gifts which obligate it to violate any other applicable law or regulation, or which violate the seminary's articles of incorporation, charter, constitution, bylaws, or policies adopted by the Board of Directors.
