In January 2009 Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary offers a cross-cultural immersion in Israel and Palestine. In addition to the biblical sites all the way from Mount Hermon in the north to the Red Sea in the south, we shall meet with Dr. Mitri Raheb of the Lutheran church in Bethlehem, staff of Augusta Victoria Hospital, the pastors of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jerusalem, Archbishop Abuna Elias Chacour in the Galilee, as well as Druze villagers in the Golan Heights, Jewish settlers, and kibbutzniks.

Seminarians who take the course for cross-cultural credit apply to the Contextual Education department to receive their $600 scholarship which they mail to the Jerusalem Center for Biblical Studies. Three hours academic credit is also possible at the M.A.R., M.Div., S.T.M., and D.Min. levels. Contact Dr. Luker for details, LLuker@mac.com or (803) 787-0864.

Pastors and lay professionals are encouraged to join us for continuing education credit, and lay persons from all walks of life always enrich the dialog that takes place on these study tours.

JUNE 3-18, 2008
16-Day Study tour
The Road To Emmaus
A Pentecost Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

Join Pastor Paul Elbert with instruction by
Dr. Monte Luker, Professor of Hebrew Scriptures at
Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary

Depart from Jacksonville, FL for only $2,707.00*
(*includes tips and taxes)

May 11, 2008 is the festival of Pentecost , the Birthday of the Church, and the day the Apostles gathered in an Upper Room in Jerusalem. Let us travel to that Upper Room and on the way traverse Galilee, the city of Jesus' childhood and early ministry. Afterwards, let us experience the Spirit of the Wilderness, as did the prophets of old, John the Baptist, and our Lord Himself. During the journey we will meet and talk with the Living Stones of the Land (Palestinians and Israelis who share this sacred space). Finally, walk the road to Emmaus and recognize the Lord in the breaking of bread (Luke 24). Come, be renewed in the Spirit. Your eyes will be opened. You will not return home the same.

SINCE 1975: The Jerusalem Center for Biblical Studies is a
non-profit organization that seeks to expand Biblical knowledge through its travel/study programs and archaeological excavations. The Jerusalem Center partners with clergy, laity and academic community leaders to plan itineraries for practical on-site learning experiences.
