We are going to go One Day Without Shoes on April 10, 2012 in partnership with thousands of other people throughout the world. There will be flyers, pocket cards (in case someone out asks what you are doing), and stickers to help raise awareness about the health risks, lack of education (many children cannot go to school without shoes), and looking forward to the opportunities that shoes can provide. -

Drum Circle Event
Everyone is invited to Living in Rhythm: A Drum Circle Event on Saturday Feb. 25th 2:30-4:30pm in Rienartz Hall. It is a family affair so please bring kids. The first part of the event will be a percussion workshop learning about all the instruments and brief instruction on how to play them. We will also be talking about how to incorporate Drum Circles into a congregational setting and how they can help with group dynamics and the spiritual journey. As part of reaching out in Christian love the Middler Class is involved with a service project helping to collect supplies for an international Mission trip to Honduras this January, which will also support those who are going on the trip from the Seminary community. The Baptist Studies Program and the CBF of SC is jointly sponsoring Brian McLaren for a Fall Symposium on Church and Culture in Columbia on October 6-7. Three of the sessions will be on the seminary campus. The first is at 10:00 on Thursday, Oct. 6. Seventy-five spaces have been reserved for LTSS students, faculty, and staff, but you must pick up a ticket and show it in order to be admitted. The Junior Class is holding a food and toiletries drive for Harvest Hope, a food bank here in Columbia, SC. We have set up collection points in Voight, Stavros, Beam, and the Student Union. The pink baskets are for food items and the green baskets are for toiletries and other items. -

Farmer's Co-op Program Still Availalbe
Thanks to the CAC and Jenny Tomalka and other staff members, LTSS has begun a Farmer's Co-op delivery program. We have received fresh (picked that day) seasonal produce from the Black Farmer's Cooperative. Eating local supports our neighboring small farmers, keeps us in touch with the seasons of God's creation as experienced in our region, and cuts out much of the waste and fossil fuels associated with long-distance produce. -

The seminary competes for Columbia's fittest company with a half-marathon, 8k run, and 4-mile walk through Columbia's downtown. Start-line is at the State House at 7:30 AM and the finish line will be at the Horseshoe on the USC campus. -
