Apartment Naming Ceremony Honors Donors

On September 12, 2008, Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary honored donors to the Hillcrest Student Apartment Complex in a Rite of Naming and Dedication for 12 apartments and a children's playground. Over $1.2 million in gifts were recognized during the service attended by more than 160 students, faculty, and friends of the seminary.
The Hillcrest apartment complex at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary provides modern living to today's seminary students. With two- and three-bedroom units, the apartments have furnished kitchens and laundry areas, spacious living areas, and outdoor living spaces that encourage community fellowship. The apartments are home to a wide variety of students, from those just out of college to those married with children and pets.
The Hillcrest apartment complex began with the Groundbreaking Ceremony held March 19, 2004 and then officially opened with the Rite of Dedication held on October 21, 2005. The September 12, 2008 Rite of Naming and Dedication acknowledges the precious gifts given to the seminary to help retire the Hillcrest apartment complex mortgage.
Donor's honored represent all areas of Region 9 (Southeast US) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). These donors are both individuals and foundations that have contributed at total of $1.2 million to the apartments. In recognition, the seminary named 12 apartments and the children's playground in honor of these donors. The seminary's President, the Rev. Dr. Marcus Miller, and Vice President for Development, Ron Walrath, led the ceremony and honored these special donors. After the ceremony, an apartment was available for public viewing.
