ELCA Fund for Leaders Honors 2008 Scholarship Recipients
October 14, 2008
CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Conference of Bishops of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), seminary presidents, churchwide leaders and supporters of the ELCA Fund for Mission honored 33 first-year seminary students Oct. 3 who received full- or partial-tuition scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year through the Fund. Each scholarship recipient is enrolled in one of the eight ELCA seminaries.
The ELCA Conference of Bishops is an advisory body of the church that includes the ELCA's 65 synod bishops, presiding bishop and secretary. It met here Oct. 2-7.
The Fund for Leaders in Mission is an ELCA initiative to build an endowed scholarship resource that provides tuition assistance to qualified candidates studying at ELCA seminaries. When fully endowed the Fund's goal is to provide full-tuition assistance for every ELCA seminary student committed to a future in parish ministry.
This year, two Southern Seminary students received full-tuition scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year, each studying for a master of divinity degree:
Ann Kelly, Boone, N.C.,
Deanna Scheffel, Warrenton, Va.,
