Two New Professors Join Seminary Faculty
April 30, 2008
Columbia, SC - The Board of Trustees of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary announces the signing of two new faculty members. The Rev. Dr. Julius Carroll will be the Associate Professor of Contextual Education and the Rev. Shauna Hannan will be the Assistant Professor of Homiletics.
Carroll comes to Southern Seminary from the churchwide office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), where he serves as the Director for African Descent Ministry-Multicultural Ministries. Prior to his work with the ELCA he was a parish minister in urban areas across the country. He holds Master of Divinity and Doctor in Ministry degrees from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. As the Associate Professor of Contextual Education, he will oversee and train the field work, clinical pastoral education, and internship experiences of seminary students.
Hannan joins the faculty as a Doctoral Candidate from Princeton Theological Seminary, where she is also a Teaching Fellow in Preaching and Speech. She has previously worked as Adjunct Faculty in Homiletics at Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg and various other seminary and parish positions within the ELCA. She holds a Master of Divinity from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. In her role as Assistant Professor of Homiletics she will instruct seminary students on the practice of preaching.
"The seminary is excited at the addition of Dr. Carroll and Pastor Hannon to our faculty. Their skills and perspectives will continue to build upon our tradition of exceptional theological education," says the seminary President, the Rev. Dr. Marcus Miller.
Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary is one of eight seminaries of the ELCA. Its student body represents Lutheran synods from across the country, as well as non-Lutheran denominations, such as Baptists, Methodists, Episcopal, United Church of Christ, and others.
