Lutheran Studies

Since 1830, LTSS has prepared leaders for the Lutheran church.  Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary is a seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the largest Lutheran church in North America.

Lutheran students from around the world choose LTSS to teach, form, and nurture them for public ministry.  For ELCA Lutheran students desiting to be rostered, the Master of Divinity (MDiv) prepares students for ordained ministry and the Master of Arts in Religion (MAR) Program prepares for rostered lay leadership roles such as Associate in Ministry (AIM), deaconess, and diaconal minister.  The MAR program is also designed for many non-rostered roles such as youth directors, christian educators, and church historians.

The Master of Sacred Theology (STM) program is also available as a post-graduate degree for further theological study.  Through the Eastern Cluster of ELCA Seminaries, LTSS also offers a Doctor in Ministry (DMin) degree. (View More Degree Details)

Those prospective students desiring to become rostered leaders in the ELCA must enter into the Candidacy Process prior to enrollment.

In addition to the ELCA, students from other Lutheran and non-Lutheran traditions may attend Southern Seminary with permission from their denomination's governing policies.
