Discernment
LTSS is here to help you as you discern God's calling in your life. If you think God is calling you to serve as a Military Chaplain, we want to help you explore this specialized and important ministry.
The seminary has a network of current, former, and future military chaplains that are able to answer your questions and share their experiences. Additionally, a number of the LTSS faculty and staff have served in the military and are also available to talk about their military experiences.
We can help connect you with the chaplain contacts within your church body and within the military that can help you actively discern your calling.
Discernment Workshops
To help you and others, the seminary also provides workshop opportunities for those discerning a call to Military Chaplaincy. Workshops in the past have been 2-day weekend experiences and also longer 3 week for-credit course in January. We are currently planning upcoming workshops. If you are interested in a discernment workshop, please contact the admissions department today.
Courses are designed to examine the unique ministry of military chaplains. The seminars help students begin a discernment process regarding military chaplaincy and/or to gain a better understanding of this specialized ministry.
The seminars include discussions with retired and active duty chaplains, visits to Ft Jackson and the chaplain schools, and discussion/lectures on history, ethics, theology and practice of military chaplains during war and peace time. The course will also look at problems and strategies in pastoral care for helping combat veterans return to civilian life.
